Allure by AdrienCGD Allure by AdrienCGD
Created with Photoshop around July 2010 in about 2 hours. Wanted to try something new when I took a picture of a log that looked pretty cool. That's the texture that I used for the planet. You can see its center around the bottom right of the planet. I think it look unrealistic but it's still nice in my opinion.

Tell me what you think :)

Wallpaper pack includes:

Hehe thanks! I wanted to try a couple of my textures in their inverse, and then worked on it. I also wanted many colors while being challenged to not make it look rainbow-ish. Glad to hear you like it :)

Splendid! It looks pretty terryfing yet :3 Like the light was a huge explosion which is about to swallow that planet...

Not too much, considering how they're desperate for money since the government cut them off of pretty much all their funding. Haha I was super close just now to start a huuuuuge rant about how I pay so much taxes and it goes for crap and they don't spend any for important stuff like NASA.

Well I guess I just mini ranted while saying I was about to :XD:

Very true! Plus the program to keep on eye on space is being threatened as well. Which means we pretty much might have a real life Armageddon and not know it... At least in the movie, the producers had more money :XD:

I really like the colors, and the texture of the planet looks good for being wood!

Yeah it's pretty amazing how that crazy idea I had of using a wood picture that I made to create a texture came out not bad :)

P.s. Awesome scene. I love lighting like this, and you pulled it off masterfully! The whole thing is great. (Just don't blur the moons next time. Even if the sun is exploding.)

Thanks, I'm really glad you like it ^.^ I feel so special lol. Yeah a few of my peers have told me the motion blur is messed up... Wonder what went wrong? But I also agree with them that it looks weird. How can I make it look like there's more motion?

You can achieve the motion by completely disregarding your typical depiction of motion in an image (blur). In space, things don't move like that. Instead, to represent the sheer force of an explosion or some other cosmological event, you should use cast shadows. You already did that, it looks like, but not enough. make those buggers DARK, maybe 2.5 times as much, and about half the length of what they are right now.

You can keep the motion blur effect you have now, but get rid of it on the lit sides. And make it a little stronger on the dark sides.

Second, slightly increase the intensity of the lit side of the log-planet and slightly increase the shadow of the dark side. I know its an awesome texture and you don't want to lose detail on it, but it needs to be a little blown out considering the intensity you're trying to convey.

I hope this helps! :la:

Thanks for the ideas! You are right about those. Glad to have some good feedback! I'll try it next time I try to do that.

About the planet you're right, and that's why I don't really like it much. I paid attention to those details in my newer works. I wish I had my psd file of this project so I could fix it because it's quite easy to fix.

No problem, I can understand. You shouldn't need the psd, its easy to make subtle adjustments even on flattened things especially in a simple scene like yours where you don't have a crapton of overlapping things. Just pull open the flattened jpeg and pull a circular marquee over the big planet in a new layer filled with black set to linear dodge and go to town. then just pull the opacity down <20% and you're set. you should try it if you have time.
