Fiamma -> 'Flame' in Italian

I followed KeepWalking07's tutorial on how to make supernovas and this is how it came out.
His was all white with a bit of blue and I thought I'd try to make one that looks more like our sun.
I didn't really have the proper textures to make this of better quality.
So this is basically an experiment at making suns using a tutorial.
Thanks again to KeepWalking07 for the tutorial!
Here's the link to the tutorial: [link]

And yay for my first wallpaper pack!
Here are the sizes you'll find if you download the pack:
1280x800
1440x900
1680x1050
1920x1200

Tell me what you think!

Haha thanks! I also read a tutorial on making suns in general just before I created this one. So I pretty much tried the new technique and that's how it came out ^.^

Strange that people call this a supernova because it's just a star. A supernova seems much more difficult to create. Nevertheless, this looks very impressive. It indeed looks quite like our Sun.

You're right, I never paid attention to that until you mentioned it! :O
Haha he made a tutorial on how to make suns and titled it a supernova instead of sun :XD:

The use of clouds to get that gassy look around the edge was very clever, well done, it seems to look more realistic than fractals :sun:

Thanks, I tried to make it look realistic and I used KeepWalking's tutorial on this one. And it's true that using clouds looks more realistic than fractals.
The only problem is I would need bigger textures with clouds that are smaller so it makes the sun look bigger with more details. What do you think?

Well it depend son the size of the sun, one like ours can have solar flares and prominences that are a quarter of the length of the sun itself at times, I'm not sure if they get bigger with a bigger sun, if they do then a massive star will have the same size-ratio, if not then they would appear tiny compared to the star itself, but usually big flares make the sphere of the sun look smaller...there's a classic optical illusion where a circle is surrounded by a few big circles, and another circle of the same size surrounded by smaller ones, and somehow the one with smaller circles around it "looks" bigger even though its not :eyepopping:

You're right. I don't know either if it's proportional or not.
And I've seen the optical illusion a lot so I know what you're talking about.
That's probably why I prefer to add smaller "arms" of flares of firing gast bursting out from the sun so it looks even bigger!
And you know those small circles around the big circle? Well I like to add tiny moons to add more depth and make the other planet look huge! :) You'll probably notice in some of my new work I do that a lot. Haven't uploaded much of it yet though...

Yeah, lots do that with the moons, you can't tell if a planet is big unless there's another spherical body passing in front that's miniscule by comparison :bump:

Yes and that's exactly why I stopped making my art with other planets/moons that are about the same size as the main one because it's hard to add depth to it.
But maybe in the future I'll try something like that.

It's a huge flare!
To not break my camera I used my sunglasses over the lens lol
I should upload it soon.
