An old piece I created on April 15th, 2010. My first attempt at making a gas giant. Came out very different from what I had expected. In a way it looks nice, but it's more of in a cartoon way I think. So it's not very realistic.

WALLPAPER PACK includes:
1024x768
1280x800
1440x900
1600x1200
1680x1050
1920x1200

Tell me what you think!

Indeed a bit cartoonish, but hey, my first gas giant ended up the same way;)

What i suggest is you take more different tones of colour closer together, and instead of making round storms, making them a bit more stretched, and smaller;)

But nice work, i like the colours a lot!! looking forward to more stuff from you;)

Good work mate

Oh and my pc does work a bit, but need do to some stuff before i can install photoshop.. so,,;)

Thanks for the tips! I'll make sure to keep it in mind next time I try a gas giant. I don't really have any upcoming ideas where I'll use a gas giant. They don't seem to be my thing, but in the future I'll make one.

There indeed very hard and need some practise by anyone.. tho dont give up;)

Gas giants are very noticable so it's hard to use them, i suggest to use them only as small planet so they wont be to distractive;)
maybe if you take a look at hubble pictures from nasa, or discovery channel, maybe you'll get ideas?:)

Hmm that's a good idea! I'll take a look at those! Hopefully my next gas giants will be better and more realistic.

Sure I will. So far I haven't done any yet. I wanna get better with perspective so I can make planets feel like they're huge. Then I'll make a gas giant that looks huge and have something in the foreground. Don't know what yet lol

Hehe yeah! I'll need to focus more on making a new texture. But like really focusing. Not just a picture and that's it. Gonna have to edit it a lot to make it into a gas giant's texture. So it's gonna take me a while. And I need to find something inspiring to take a picture of that'll be a good base for the texture.

your pieces are getting better, but you need to add some solar or coronal output from the star instead of just a lens flare. It makes it seem more realistic!

Thanks, I'm glad you think so. But you're right that I shouldn't've used a flare like that... too beginner-ish. And I was just trying to rush it. Shouldn't have done that. Thanks for the input :)

Yeah, i used to rush it to get finished. But i taught myself to fit in those extra minutes or hours to make it perfect. in the end its worth it. I can show you how to make custom star brushes to enhance them!

That would be nice! I try to make starfields myself with different techniques. There's still one way that I haven't really learned that I noticed some artists use, like archangelzz. But the biggest thing I need to learn is flares for the moment because they give me a really hard time.

And you're right, taking a few extra minutes here and there can really boost up the overall quality and look more professional. Those minutes easily add up to hours though :XD:

First of all glad to see you back on the reins making more space arts ;)

Second great piece overall. You're correct that it isn't too realistic especially on the gas giant. I think this is due to the glossy feel of the texture. If it was more cloud like it'd be nicer. Overall a very simple piece. A simple light source but a nice glowing effect. The space gas has a nice hue to it, matching the rest of the piece and the stars. The various star sizes give the starfield some nice variation. Good job.

Thanks! You did some nice analyzing on this piece because that's mainly what I did! I try to make starfields like this more often now since it's a good 3D feeling ^.^

And yeah it's nice to be back! But like I wrote in the description, it's an old piece and there's more coming up. Not too many are recent though. Just never had the time to upload them.

Granted, it may look more like liquid than gas giant (interesting speculation, actually) but in terms of style, this is good.

Yeah it would be interesting if there were planets full of liquids instead of gas and looked like that instead of a big blue boring ball. (looks at uranus)
