Vantage Point by AdrienCGD Vantage Point by AdrienCGD
Vantage Point
I made this one last month, on April 1st late at night when I was bored.
It came out pretty well even though I should work a bit more on make the planet's glow/shading more similar to each other?
Also last week I noticed the texture of the planet wasn't very strong so I sharpened it and it came out better.
Tell me what you think.

Lovely :D I think it's everything alright with planets, cannot tell if their shadings should be more similar to each other, but probably not. I love your spacescapes :D

Haha yeah the lighting is very different on this painting, it's because the planets are oribiting around the light source which is why the light should be different. But I just realized that it would make it seem as though the further stars are so much more immense than the ones in the foreground or that the light source is extremely tiny and close to us.

Thanks! I wanted to try a certain perspective when I created it. I like how I made it seem like they float. I just think theres something missing though. And Im still not sure why. But Im glad to hear its your favorite ;)

Hehe glad you do!
I use the same textures quite a lot actually.
In most of my space art I only use about 5 different textures that come again and again in a lot of them lol

Sorry, the size here is the only one I have.
I forgot to save the original copy so I only have this size right now.
In my upcoming space art, I made wallies up to 1920x1200.
But as I can see, you have a different resolution.
Would 1920x1280 work for you if I cropped my new space art (that is if you're interested in my newer ones that I'll be uploading soon)

1920x1200 would be most awsome as well. :)

and of course i would be most interested in futur work :)

one of the things i do with any of the wallpapers i make is put them in a folder for storage. that way if i want to mod them i copy then into a folder that i keep all the stuff i'm currently working on

Hehe then that's fine since all my other works are in that format.
Yes, each individual piece is in its own folder with all the different picture sizes, the psd file, etc...
I'm organized, no worries! ;)
The only problem I have is my computer's running out of memory and I can't buy external memory because it's too inconvenient and I'm cheap lol

memory or drive space?

you should be able to get an exernal drive for pretty cheap these days.. i picked up a 1 terrabyte for $200. and you can get smaller ones for alot less

That's pretty cheap.
But you see, I only have $20 in my pocket right now so yeah...
And external drive, you know, RAM.
My computer has 120GB but I can only use 20 because it split the C: in two with a D: and all the programs are installed and used on the C: which only has 20 GB.
And then it keeps 80GB on the side to back up my files in case there's a system failure or something.
BUt seriously, whoever made this computer can't do math...
If you use only 20GB where 13 are already system files, you only need 7GB of person stuff to back up, not 80! And even if you used all 40, then you'd need 40, not 80! lol

that's why it's always best to get a large secondary drive or external drive. i have a 750 gig d:, a 500 gig external, and 1000 gig external, that way it will be a very long time before i have to worry :D

Wow that's a whole lot of memory! :o
How can you need that much?
I think with 60 I should be fine.
And that would include all the programs like photoshop, itunes, gimp, etc..., all my music, all my pictures, psd files, school assignments and all.

Awesome textures and color on the planets. And thumbs up on the fact that all your stars are the same angle :) And the second planet with the two light sources is executed quite well :)

I like the simplicity of this piece. What did you use for the textures? Satellite photos?

Great piece.

Hehe thanks I'm glad you like it!
The texture is a mix of two things, one is a texture of this wall I took a shot of a long time ago, and the second texture was made using photoshop only which is pretty easy (I followed a tutorial that uses the difference cloud effect to make it look extremely mountainy and sharp :)
Hehe yes, the second planet is my fav!
I wish I could've worked better on the first one (the big one)

But why the big bodies'lighting is oriened differently than in the small body?

I believe you're asking me why the light source looks differently on each planet?
That's because the distant sun which is the light source reflects on each planet, but the planets are at different angles of the sun.

First off, this piece looks great. I like how the textures on the planets are nice and sharp, it's good because they look barren and therefore probably lack atmosphere which would cause blurriness.

I think the comment you made about the glow/ shading of the planets was a good observation, because unless there is an alternate light source off to the right of the image, the planets should have a nearly identical glow. (This is unless the proportions of the planets are just that some are closer to the sun without appearing so.)

Also on a personal note, I think that the purple goes along with the cool colors of the image, but doesn't really make the piece look better. Maybe if you kept the blue down to the bottom or something like that. This is just a suggestion, don't see it as much of a criticism.

Overall, I really like this scene, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback!
Yes, as you can see, I always see a bunch of mistakes I made, AFTER I finished a work lol
But in this case, when you look at the second planet, there's two suns next to it which is why it has two lighting source.
And because the smaller sun is right next to it, the lighting blends with the other sun's for the big planet.
That's why the shading is a bit weird since it looks very different on the planets even though that's probably how it should be.
And about the purple, I think you're right.
Purple usually adds a nice feeling, but it feels like it ruins the depth of textures wenever use it, whereas blue does the opposite.

Thanks again for the comment! :D
