My second try at terraspace. Done a long time ago on October 17th, 2010. It turned out much better than my first terraspace. Though I feel I could work a little more on this one.

The picture used for the planet with the mountains comes from Google Earth in 3D. I'm not sure how to credit. Though I will not submit a print for this otherwise it would go against the copyrights. Hopefully in the future I can get Vue 8 or terragen.

Juding from the thumb, this image seems to flow together pretty nicely; much better than the last one I critiqued from you (when was that? Seems like it has been ages ago...). So anyways, back to the image.

The hues are working well together; the purple really adds towards it! Big plus on that part. Same with the planet. Without it, the scene would probably look boring and dull.

However, there are also several things I'd like to point out that might need further refinement. I'll start off with the most obvious element: the terrain. I have read your comment about how you got it. Fairly innovative method. Alas, it is obvious that there have been a couple filters slapped over it. Some ridges are overly sharp and the black dots that are literally everywhere destroy the naturalness of the terrain. Instead of filterizing to get rid of possible artefacts, it might be better to just collect a couple stock-images of various sites and manipulate those into the scene. It might be a little more time-consuming, but the final result will therefore be a whole lot better.

Let us talk a little bit about the planet. The overall look is okay, but upon closer inspection, one quickly recognizes some, let's call them, "awkwardnesses". The first thing that comes to my mind would be the two straight lines, going right over the surface. If they're intended, then it would be better to add some more variations to them, to let them look like cracks, chasms, or the like. Otherwise, it would be probably better to clone them out. Pretty much the same applies to the gianormous river-like structure covering the bottom half of the planet. Judging from the colors, it could be a large crack; judging from the shape, it could be a river. My suggestion would be to reinforce the edges by further highlighting/shadowing or to reduce the opacity of the river to make it appear less dominant. Maybe even reduce the overall contrasts on the planet, considering that it's probably many thousand kilometers away and the atmosphere of the terrain swallows quite a bit of light coming from space. Compare it to the small planet, it has almost no details ;)

Speaking about the atmosphere again: the closer you get towards the horizon, the more atmosphere is between the viewer and the stars. This again means that the brightness of latter should decline the lower you get. And, of course, clouds block out some light as well, so it would be good to capture this, too.

The rest would be just senseless nitpicking, so I guess, I'll leave it with this. Although the above paragraphs sound fairly negative, I'd like to point out that you have come a long way since my last critique. I am pretty sure that you can further improve and become a great space-artist! :)
